ABOUT US
On August 12, 2003, we were devastated by the loss of Dave, Adam, Jonah and Jordan, when one of the boys fell into a raging river and in a final act of friendship the other three jumped in to try and save him without a moment of hesitation. For most of us, not a day goes by that we do not think of them. It was in their honor that the Baco Boys Fund was formed.
The Baco Boys Fund is a New York non-for-profit corporation designed to offer the summer camp experiences that meant so much to David, Adam, Jonah, and Jordan to children who otherwise might not be able to afford such an opportunity. Camp meant the world to each of these boys. It was the place where, as young campers, their incredible camaraderie ripened, their heroic values were shaped, and their passion for life was encouraged to thrive. It was also the place where, as young adults, they returned each summer to instill in youthful campers the true meaning of friendship which they had come to know so well.
For the past two summers, the Baco Boys Fund has been changing children's lives. In 2004 and 2005 we sent Andre, a 9 year-old boy from Virginia, to sleepaway camp for the very first time and those close to Andre report that he made social and academic strides upon returning home from camp. In 2005 the Baco Boys Fund changed yet another life. Andrew, an 8 year old from New York, was at a turning point in his life. The Baco Boys Fund sent him to sleepaway camp where he was able to learn and grow among children his own age. At camp, where counselors teach and serve as excellent role models, Andrew had a blast and made many friends. He now yearns for next summer when he can return to camp to be by their side, and the Baco Boys Fund has made a commitment to sponsor Andrew every summer until his time as a camper has run its course.
Thanks to our generous supporters, children like Andre and Andrew are given the opportunities that many of us often take for granted. Today, more than ever, we are reminded that there are numerous families who can use our help. Sending a less fortunate child to sleepaway camp not only gives a child the chance to grow into a strong, confident, and skilled adult, but it eases and enriches his or her family’s lives as well.
